This past Friday, a team from Reliance One spent their R1 Impact Day at Forgotten Harvest of Southeast Detroit.  They assisted the farm personnel with clean up in the barns in order to get them ready for the upcoming season.  In the first barn, they removed straw so they could start relocating dirt to the lower areas of the barn, while also disposing of large piles of trash.  In the second barn, Robin, Joe, and Jake focused on leaf removal while Ericka sorted gloves for future volunteers.

The team said Forgotten Harvest was very thankful they were able to get some of these larger tasks off of their list, since they usually get pushed aside when the weather gets nicer, which is when their focus turns to planting and harvesting.

"While we sit down at our tables each and every day to enjoy a meal, we don’t realize that one out of every five people in Southeast Michigan goes without.  This farm has a goal of delivering 1.7 million pounds of food to the tables of those in need.  Knowing that we had a small part in that eventual success was a great feeling,” stated Robin Hilliker, R1 Account Manager.

Northern Lakes Economic Alliance took time Friday to recognize several groups and individuals whose efforts help enhance Northern Michigan economically.  The event drew more than 700 guests to North Central Michigan College and featured a keynote address by Michigan Gov. Rick Snyder.

Northern Lakes presented economic development "Project of the Year" honors to the organizations that collaborated to develop the Mobile Digital Fabrication Lab, or "Fab Lab" for short. This recently unveiled mobile lab is meant to help area workers, as well as high-school and college students, develop skills needed to use computer numeric control (CNC) systems in manufacturing.

North Central Michigan College is leading the way in providing a new “channel” of education for the benefit of many.  “You are on the forefront due to the Fab Lab”, said Governor Snyder.
“Triune Specialty Trailers was honored to be selected as the prime contractor for the development of this extraordinary mobile outreach trailer on behalf of North Central Michigan College,” said Harry Kurtz, President of Triune Specialty Trailers.   “Producing these types of creative, meaningful, mobilized solutions is what we do best.”

The Mobile Fab Lab is already scheduled for training and students are lining up to get on the schedule.  Governor Snyder, North Central Michigan College and the Northern Lakes Economic Alliance are confident this is the beginning for many more trailers similar to this one.  CNC education is a primary focus with many other areas of educational need for manufacturing, skilled trades and professional services.

MADISON HEIGHTS, MICH., April 16, 2014 – North Central Michigan College takes delivery of the first ever Mobile Fab Lab!

The mobile lab takes manufacturing training on the road.  The innovative mobile CNC Digital Fabrication Lab known as “The Fab Lab” is the only one of its kind in Northern Michigan, if not the entire State of Michigan operated by a state school.

The unit will provide CNC programming and machining training to high school and college students in Northern Michigan to support workforce development in the region.  The unit was acquired by North Central Michigan College with the support of the Northern Lakes Economic Alliance.

“This was an outstanding opportunity for Triune to participate in the production of a mobile controlled environment,” said Don Hunley, Vice President. “Creating a mobile CNC classroom setting using traditional mobile solutions (a trailer) is extremely innovative and the applications are limitless”

Reliance One, Inc., a Michigan based staffing and recruiting firm, is proudly celebrating 15 years of solving staffing challenges for our clients and providing jobs to thousands of people.

Over the past 15 years, Reliance One has been developing and supporting complete staffing solutions that meet the highly demanding and complex requirements of its clients. Reliance One has established itself as a true partner for building teams and assisting with workforce flexibility.

Since its inception in 1998, Reliance One has grown from two employees, current President Jim Beath and Vice President Jim Paquette, who were working out of a home in Flint, Michigan to a company with over 60 internal employees and over 1300 contactors onsite with clients.  “This is an exciting time to be in the staffing industry and our clients have never needed our services more than they do right now, said Jim Beath, President of Reliance One.

Reliance One relocated its headquarters to Auburn Hills in March of 2012.  “We purchased a 22,000 square-foot building in Auburn Hills and created a state of the art recruiting center for our clients and employees.   The building is designed with the latest technologies and the layout is perfect for what we do – putting people to work,” said Beath.

Reliance One, stronger than ever at its 15-year anniversary, continues to be committed to provide high-quality staffing solutions and services.  The best is yet to come.

The Marketing & Sales Executives of Detroit (MSED) recently honored five professionals for marketing and sales excellence at the 20th annual MSED Black-Tie Gala Dinner, held at the Roostertail in Detroit on October 16.

At this year’s Gala, Peter Karmanos Jr., former executive chairman and founder of Compuware Corporation, was the inaugural recipient of the Herb Everss Lifetime Achievement Award. Karmanos received the award in recognition of his dedication and commitment to Compuware and the Detroit community for the past 30 years. Because of his contributions, leadership skills and hands-on management, Compuware was transformed from a start-up to nearly $1 billion in annual revenue.

Alan Batey, senior vice president, Global Chevrolet Brand Chief and U.S. Sales and Marketing, General Motors, received the 2013 Executive Leadership Award. Before rising to his current global responsibilities, Batey held several senior management positions of increasing responsibility for General Motors around the world. He also has a history of delivering great business results, as evidenced by Chevrolet achieving 10 consecutive quarters of record sales.

Andra Rush, president and CEO, The Rush Group, was recognized with MSED’s Trailblazer Award, which honors a business leader whose marketing and sales approach steered their company into unchartered waters with very impactful results. Under her leadership, The Rush Group family of companies has grown into one of the largest Native American-owned business operations in the United States, opening up new opportunities for minorities, as well as creating hundreds of jobs in Detroit.

“As a community of marketing and sales professionals, we applaud the efforts of those who are also using their business skills to make the city of Detroit and our region a better place in which to live and work,” said Dave Harries, chairman of the 2013 MSED Gala and president of Spartan Marketing Services. “Each of our awardees has achieved significant accomplishments and we want to give them the recognition they so richly deserve.”

Also recognized at the Gala, Molly MacDonald, founder of the Pink Fund, and John Chalifoux, president, Motor & Equipment Remanufacturers’ Association (MERA), received Platinum Awards for their outstanding achievements in marketing and sales.

MacDonald was recognized with a Platinum Award for her launch of the Pink Fund, a short-term financial support program for those undergoing treatment for breast cancer. Since 2006, she has grown her organization into a nationally recognized cancer support system, which experienced an increase of 602 percent in applications and 329 percent in funding for 2012.

Chalifoux received the prestigious Platinum Award for advancing sustainability through manufacturing at the Motor & Equipment Remanufacturers’ Association (MERA). Since its launch in 2011, MERA has received international recognition for its sustainability movement, due in large part to the efforts of Chalifoux. Through his marketing-based approaches, he has also achieved impressive new member growth for MERA, which brings together nearly 90 major companies.

The MSED Gala, which is in its 20th year, is an annual event, celebrating the achievements of marketing and sales professionals and business executives throughout southeastern Michigan. The funds raised from this event allow the organization to provide educational and professional assistance within the metro-Detroit community.

“This gala is a way for us to honor the outstanding professionals in our area, and to ensure the livelihood of this profession by investing in future professionals through scholarships and education,” said Harries.
